An Uncle remembered.

Rob was my uncle. My Father is his brother Michael. I have many fond memories of Rob and Nina from my childhood. They used to come and visit us at Southwell and call my sister, brother and myself the 3 horrors. I can see him now sat eating some cake my mother had made whilst our dachshund, Ben sat watching and drooling. Rob asked why and I said it was because you have got his dish! He roared with laughter and my mother gave me the glare that could melt a brick wall. Another time was when we were coming back from Hatfield House West Bridgford in an old car him and Nina had bought. It was an Austin A50. He was belting it down the by pass to Radcliffe on Trent and the faster he went the more the back seat moved leaving me and my brother watching the road disappear underneath. He also used to read bedtime stories to us as children. Tom Sawyer with all the accents. I would have liked our paths to cross again but from looking at the photographs I don't think I would have recognized him straightaway until I saw the ones of him smiling and the gap in his front teeth. My father has the same gap. It was no age to go at 66 but he has left a legacy of good memories of those who knew him. Craig Scothern
